Challenges Terms and Conditions

School of Mathematics and Physics, University of Lincoln – Mathematics and Physics Challenges

The following Terms and Conditions refer to the Mathematics Challenge and the Physics Challenge.

1. The promoter is: University of Lincoln, Brayford Pool, Lincoln LN6 7TS.
2. The Challenges are open to UK residents aged 15–18 years.
3. All entrants must have parental consent to enter the competition.
4. The Challenges are aimed at pre university aged students and are not open to undergraduate students.
5. Closing date for entry into a challenge is listed in the challenge announcement. After that date no further entries to the competition will be accepted.
6. Submissions must be made either via email to maths@lincoln.ac.uk for the Maths Challenge, or physics@lincoln.ac.uk for the Physics Challenge. Entries can also be made by post to School of Mathematics and Physics, University of Lincoln, Lincoln, LN6 7TS. Please state which challenge you are entering at the top of your postal submission.
7. An entry must clearly state the entrant’s name, age, address, telephone number and e-mail address, as well as the name and address of their school.
8. No responsibility can be accepted by the University of Lincoln for entries not received for whatever reason.
9. Prizes for the winners and runners-up are set by the competition committee formed within the school.
10. The University of Lincoln reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the University.
11. The promoter is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party in connection with the competition.
12. No alternatives to the prizes will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. The prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
13. A winner and any possible runners-up will be chosen by a panel of judges appointed by the University of Lincoln. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
14. The winner will be notified by email and/or letter not later than 25 days after the closing date of the competition. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize at the prize-giving ceremony, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
15. The prize-awarding ceremony will be organised at University of Lincoln (to be confirmed).
16. The promoter’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
17. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
18. The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by the English law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
19. The winner agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material, supported by parental consent. Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent.
20. By entering the competition, you agree to grant appropriate copyright permissions to the University to use images of your submission for promotion of the competition.
21. The winner’s name will be available after 3 months after the closing date of the competition by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the following address: Communications, Development and Marketing Department, University of Lincoln, Brayford Pool, Lincoln LN6 7TS.
