New member of staff: Dr Yuri Santos Rego

Yuri Santos Rego joined the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Lincoln as a Lecturer in Pure Mathematics.

He graduated from the University of Brasília in 2012 and got a Master’s degree from the University of Campinas in 2014. He then moved from Brazil to Germany where he obtained his PhD in 2019 from Bielefeld University. In 2019–2023 he worked in postdoctoral positions at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, becoming in 2021 a researcher in the Priority Program 2026 ‘Geometry at Infinity’ and associated postdoctoral fellow of the Research Training Group 2297 ‘MathCoRe’, both programmes of the German Research Foundation.

Yuri’s research interests are mainly in group theory and topology. More precisely, linear groups (S-arithmetic, Coxeter, algebraic and Lie groups) and related objects such as homogeneous spaces and buildings; cohomology of groups; problems around (twisted) conjugation; Thompson groups; and low-dimensional objects (e.g., knots and spatial graphs, Cantor spaces).
